The aim of our research is to find key genes and their regulatory networks, which significantly shape the unique and diverse biology of marine microalgae (phytoplankton). These data will help to improve our understanding about how these globally important organisms have evolved and are adapted to specific marine habitats. This fundamental knowledge about microbes from the upper ocean will help to interpret future responses to global change.
