Bacteria such as Caulobacter crescentus and Streptomyces species have complex developmental life cycles and are used as models to understand bacterial development and cell division. Streptomyces research in Norwich goes back 50 years, when David Hopwood moved to Norwich to become the John Innes Professor of Genetics at UEA, shortly after it opened. He established the Streptomyces research group at the John Innes Centre which is still going strong, with satellite groups at UEA.
